What Kinds of Events Will You Find at Lost Corner Preserve?
Children's programs, lectures, nature walks and other ways for you and your family to connect to and enjoy Lost Corner's 24 acre nature preserve can be found here regularly. The historic Cottage where talks are held is ADA compliant. Walk-ins are always welcome but please register as required to help us know how many people to expect. How to Maximize Your Bird Feeder

Want to attract the largest number & variety of birds to your backyard? Roseanne Guerra, Master Birder & Audubon lecturer will share all the ways we can make our backyards an oasis for our feathered friends. She'll cover the best type of seed & feed, what kinds of bird feeders to use & where to place them to attract the most birds. As a bonus, she'll share tips on how we can deter those pesky squirrels! This event is geared towards Naturalists, birders and anyone interested in attracting birds to their backyard. Tree Training and Pruning Workshop

Pruning is an essential element to insuring the health and beauty of all trees and bushes, but the when, how & where are daunting for most of us. David Norton, City of Sandy Springs Landscape Manager, will tackle all of these issues and more in this interactive workshop. Together with Willie Park, the City of Sandy Springs Arborist, David will address when to prune, how to prune, which tools are best and how to use them effectively. After this workshop, we'll be ready to tackle pruning in our own yards and watch our plants flourish! We've had such a great response that we plan to have this FREE workshop return again soon.

Take a Walk on the Wild Side: Essential Elements to Creating a Living Landscape

Join Laura Markson, a backyard naturalist from the nonprofit, Nurture Native Nature as she explores basic ways to heal our yards' ecosystems. Laura will share stories of the daily joy & wonder of experiencing nature in her own re-wilded yard. Wherever you are in your journey of creating a welcoming place for wildlife, Laura will inspire you to make a least one change in your own yard! Learn which species live in Georgia & the ways to attract these to our yards! Bats are weird, wonderful & often misunderstood but they are essential to a healthy ecosystem & play a big role in insect control. Gardening for bats helps with pollination & seed dispersal. Roseanne Guerra, Master Birder, Naturalist & Environmental Educator has wildlife & education experience that includes animal rehabilitation, performing in Zoo Atlanta’s free-flighted bird show and leading many bird walks for Georgia Audubon Society & numerous nature centers. The Civil War left Sandy Springs in economic shambles. Join Clarke Otten, local historian, as he recounts the evolution of Sandy Springs from a struggling agricultural area, to a summer playground for wealthy Atlantans, to a suburban bedroom community.

Local historian Clarke Otten, is the recipient of Sandy Springs Society’s “Spirit of Sandy Springs” award, served on the board of Friends of Lost Corner and worked extensively with Heritage Sandy Springs. Click HERE to register for this FREE event.

Jimmy Carter: Champion of the Chattahoochee

Master Naturalist Alan Toney will explore Jimmy Carter's important and expansive environmental accomplishments. Carter is a lifelong outdoorsman, lover of nature and champion of our rivers, parks and forests both as governor and later president. From supporting the creation of the Georgia Conservancy and protecting the Georgia coast, to establishing the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area in 1978, Carter has had a profound and lasting impact on our natural world, both in Georgia and beyond.
